holodisks and holocubes

Potential structures for holographic recordable media have holographic disks (Holodisks or HoloCDs) and holographic cubes (Holocubes). A key challenge is that holodisks and/or holocubes must be accessible to light, but also resilient in construction. When optimized, these media may contain more than a terabyte of data. The commercial market for holodisks and/or holocubes could grow to several billion dollars by 2010. Link to Holographic storage: the 500GB business card provides more perspective.

New developments in holographic applied science are enableing the formation of holograms that can be seen from several different perspectives spanning much (e.g. over 120 degrees) of the range of sight from a relatively fixed location. Big, high-clarity holograms with more than a terabyte of pixels can be constructed by combining numerous, smaller holographic cells. You may also find Virtual Reality Cell Phones of interest.

Further, Holographic Cubes includes coverage of similar technologies.
